2010 Gay Games Cologne Posted: Feb 23, 2010
Good Morning Sports Fans,

Gay Games VIII will open in Cologne, Germany on July 31 and continue through August 7. This special communication has information that you may find helpful as you begin to make final preparations for this tremendous event.

We hope that you will join us in Cologne and march with us into the opening and closing ceremonies!

Team Uniforms and Trading Pins

A key part of the Gay Games Opening Ceremony is the Procession of Athletes. Country and city teams will march into the RheinEnergieStadion in uniform. Those persons that are not wearing the uniform will be asked to march at the back of their city, state or country contingent. For the second consecutive Games, your team can obtain approval to include the official Gay Games logo on those uniforms and pins. For more information about this program, contact FGG Officer of Marketing Doug Litwin at dlitwin@gaygames.org.

Teams often make trading pins that members take with them to the Games. Trading Pins become collector's items if they are well designed (or the giver is attractive!), so you will want to bring plenty of pins to trade.

Gay Games VIII Website

Everything you need to know about the Gay Games can be found at the website www.games-cologne.com. Here you will find all the latest updates, registration, special tours and events that will be available for people attending the Games, news about performers and special guests and links to teams and Sponsors. Cologne is in the state of North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) and its 12th century cathedral (also called the “Dom”) is Germany’s most visited site and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

Registration

More than 5,000 participants have already registered for Gay Games VIII. They will be part of the largest international LGBT Sporting and Cultural event in 2010. We hope that your members will too! There is still plenty of time to register and slots are still available in all of the sports and cultural activities. We strongly recommend that if you and/or your team plan to go, that you register NOW. This will ensure you a spot at the Gay Games in the event that you want. It is unclear if there will be any further Registration discounts offered, so if you know you are going, then go ahead and register now.

Hotels and Hosted Housing

For those of you who have not yet made your travel arrangements, Games Cologne has information on hotels, hostels, and hosted housing on its website at http://www.games-cologne.de/en/cologne/accommodations. Games Cologne and the Cologne Tourist Bureau have developed a relationship with the Hotel Reservation Service (HRS) that offers discounted rates. The website has information on thousands of lodgings in the Cologne area. The site also has information about group travel arrangements.

Several North American city teams are collaborating on travel arrangements (Team Chicago, Team Philadelphia, and Team Seattle) and can offer you some ideas on hotels and airline flights. Y
